SLAADI: Bleeding Slaad

Bloated and obscene, Bleeding Slaadi appear on the Prime Material Plane as vast crimson-red airborne monstrosities gently raining blood on the landscape below. It is said that their appearance is a harbinger of volatile times, but since so few have seen them and retained their sanity, this has been difficult to verify.

Painted under the influence of Slayer.

Also, this one was 2 or 3 different things in my head. All of which were abandoned when I started painting. Then it went through 2 or 3 transformations on the page AS I WAS WORKING ON IT. A slippery beast, this one. But I suppose that is oddly appropriate for a Slaad.

Oh, yeah, I have tried mighty hard to make mine very different from Scrap Princess's Slaadi, but I think the idea of something vast, red, bloated, bloody and floating just influenced us both somehow. Weird.

The paper is what really drives it home.

"Gently raining blood" really brings this one home.

I was actually hesitant to use the found paper at first, Mordicai, since I associate it so strongly with the "Moby-Dick" project. I really needed something with the proper dimensions though, so I almost felt like I had no choice. Gradually I too began to feel like it was really working well with this illustration, visually and conceptually. This is my favorite one so far, although I am pleased with them all.

RF, I know! "Gently" was just so perfect! And this is very high praise for me indeed, coming from a wordsmith as excellent as you. Thank you very much.
