The Moby-Dick Bicycle

In New Bedford, at the Moby-Dick Marathon, I had a good time talking to Ed Bordas who is as passionate about the novel as I am. We spent some time talking about the book, my art, and New Bedford in general and he was kind enough to email me after the Marathon to share some photos of his incredible, beautiful, custom built and painted Moby-Dick bicycle. Here's a photo...

...but there are many many more at this link so take a look. The art is based on a Rockwell Kent illustration and the quote along the top tube of the bicycle is "It’s a mutual, joint-stock world, in all meridians." Awesome. Ed tells me it was designed by the fine craftsman at Circle A Cycles in Providence, Rhode Island, so check them out too.

Additionally, Ed is the proud owner of hundreds of unique editions of Moby-Dick and passed along a link to this piece in The Village Voice from 2002 exploring his one-time home, a 500 square foot apartment in the East Village. It's an intriguing story, and you can see an image of a small part of Ed's amazing collection.
