Title: Ship and boat diverged; the cold, damp night breeze blew between; a screaming gull flew overhead; the two hulls wildly rolled; we gave three heavy-hearted cheers, and blindly plunged like fate into the lone Atlantic.

    It's difficult to see in the scan, but the found paper I used has several "vanishing points" clearly indicated, which is why I chose it for this prophetic image.

    Again...so powerful... When you do a black background, you do it so intensely and it has such a striking effect on the viewer...well, this one at least.

    It's all in the materials I use, really. For colored pencils, I use black Berol Prismacolor pencils which have a lovely, waxy, velvety finish that you can layer over and over until it is a beautifully burnished ebony. This piece is India ink, but the secret is to leave the bottle out, open, for a few days. Some of the alcohol evaporates which really deepens the pigment substantially.
