As with Queequeg and Ahab, it took me a very long time to settle on just how I wanted to visualize a character as crucial to the narrative as Starbuck is. He, along with the other mates, are, after all, "momentous men" as Melville writes.
In the end, while some of the symbolic elements may be a bit on the obvious side, I'm actually quite happy with how this piece turned out and I look forward to creating more images of Starbuck.
Next week brings us the first images of Flask, Stubb, Tashtego and Daggoo. I've got a lot of work to do.
