Title: In the distance, a great white mass lazily rose, and rising higher and higher, and disentangling itself from the azure, at last gleamed before our prow like a snow-slide, new slid from the hills. Thus glistening for a moment, as slowly it subsided, and sank. Then once more arose, and silently gleamed.

The original paper makes a stunning backdrop (is it a map?).

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Hannah, I was actually really worried about this one. I almost started it another way, then stopped, then went with something really intuitive. After a bit, I became deeply worried that somehow this looked too much like a (don't laugh!) thing from the Nintendo Super Mario games called a Gooper Blooper. I finished it anyway and my wife assured me it looked far more eerie and surreal than a Super Mario character, and it reminded her of a 1960s sci-fi book cover. So I felt better and I'm starting to like it more and more.
ReplyDeleteThe background image is actually a circuit board map from a radio repair guide from the mid 1960s. I loved the pattern of the circuits and the exploding lines.
Ah Sean, I wish I could write something terribly artistic and make it look like those triangles were the result of skill hard earned after years of effort in a rainy cave in Nepal. But really, I just used a triangle template and traced smaller and smaller ones inside. It's not as easy as it seems, and you can see all sorts of irregularities, but it's an effect I love.
