Title: Dropping his spade, he thrust both hands in, and drew out handfuls of something that looked like ripe Windsor soap, or rich mottled old cheese; very unctuous and savory withal. You might easily dent it with your thumb; it is of a hue between yellow and ash color. And this, good friends, is ambergris, worth a gold guinea an ounce to any druggist.

Holy cow. Love this piece. Five away from FOUR HUNDRED.
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny you should comment Kyle, because (honestly) I was actually thinking a bit about you and how your own art and design tends to be so fearlessly and elegantly minimal. So in a very real sense, you influenced this piece and I was hoping you would like it. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, almost to 400. At times, I never thought I would really get this far. It's a strange feeling to look back and see how far this has all come. There's a long road behind me now, and a much shorter one ahead. Weird.
Thanks man. Minimalist aesthetic is so very important to me - although I do occasionally enjoy excess, if only for it's absurdity and novelty.
ReplyDeleteNot to call excess the same as detail, which indeed are two different things.
Kyle, a big part of this artistic endeavor for me has been trying to learn more about myself. I go back and forth between a love for the simple, minimalist style and the excessively detailed drawings I've done in the past. In a sense, I am appreciative of the fact that I seem to be able to navigate and enjoy both, but at times I feel quite torn and wonder where my true path lies. Hopefully over the course of the next 148 pages I will learn more and find some peace.
