Title: "... but base little Pip, he died a coward; died all a'shiver; — out upon Pip! Hark ye; if ye find Pip, tell all the Antilles he's a runaway; a coward, a coward, a coward! Tell them he jumped from a whale-boat! I'd never beat my tambourine over base Pip, and hail him General, if he were once more dying here. No, no! shame upon all cowards — shame upon them! Let 'em go drown like Pip, that jumped from a whale-boat. Shame! shame!"

Wow. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCan only add another Wow. Pip calls to me so as a character in the book.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hannah. Yet another sketch that turned into a study that evolved into a finished piece. Which is weird because I never ever ever used to sketch or pre-plan anything. These days though, I am enjoying it.
ReplyDeletePip is indeed a remarkable character and in some ways (for me at least) the best medium for me to channel my own childhood terrors and fears into this project. At first, I was slightly concerned that I had repeated myself a bit with this image. After some reflection, I realized that this was not simple repetition, but reinforcement of the same visions which terrorized me as a child Pip's age. It's strage how now, almost 500 pages into this work, the visual vocabulary has settled in and become part of the novel for me.
