I am really happy with this one, Hannah. Although it looks eighty bazillion times better in person, so it makes me a bit sad to see it so tiny on a computer screen. The towering Ahab behind the wall looks positively menacing and luminous in the darkness, in person I mean. Let's hope it looks as good when the book comes out.
Thank you lime green cardi, that is very kind. The drawings on your blog are really fantastic. I am kind of envious of your style and your ability to capture what you see around you in way that looks almost effortless. I have a moleskine sketchbook as well, but I have been delaying sketching in it until I am finished with this project. They seem such delightful little books.
Buck, that is actually very much what I was hoping for. This scene in the novel is absolutely chilling. Ahab's obsession has hardened into an inhuman isolation and coldness and his refusal to help Captain Gardiner locate and rescue his son is almost blasphemously cruel.
Thank you Jessica. This piece was a bit of a triumph for me personally because even being able to accomplish little things, like making a dark figure show almost luminously against an even darker background with just paint and ink, are very new for me. The work is paying off in many ways.
Yowzers! So good!
