Thank you Sandy. I had something very different in mind when I started laying down the washes of texture and color. Gradually though, this took shape. It's a bit of an homage to the prehistoric vistas so vividly depicted in the dinosaur books I obsessed over as a child. As is very fitting really for this passage and a book about a journey in the most primal of jungles.
I am absolutely certain I will be selling these all. I hope to begin with a gallery show of all 100 pieces, but that should not preclude me claiming this one for you. Unless of course (as I always say) some eccentric millionaire with a zen for Conrad offers me six figures for the entire series. Other than that, it's yours.
RF, it makes me very very happy that you wrote that comment. I can't help but occasionally wonder what you would think of these as I work on them, which is an odd thing for me.
Breathtaking, Matt. If these ever go up for sale, please put my name on this one. :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have many guests at our house, but when we do, your Moby Dick art & book are the center of attention.

Fingers crossed for you on the eccentric millionaire, but I'll be here in the meantime! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the way this immediately evokes the microscopic life that, even now, is invading Marlow's body.
