Title: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale's flesh that night. Mingling their mumblings with his own mastications, thousands on thousands of sharks, swarming round the dead leviathan, smackingly feasted on its fatness.

Love it, great color
ReplyDeleteAwesome. A definite shift in colors over the last bunch of drawings (lots of reds, purples, yellows).
ReplyDeleteawesome and scary and gory and beautiful all at the same time!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeffrey. I actually see this color combination (pale aqua blue and crimson red) on the logo of a trucking company whose trucks I seem to constantly be behind on the highway. That's honestly where some of the idea for his piece came from. I've always wanted to use that combination but never quite found the right place, and this happened almost by accident. I wish I could remember their name because I see their damn trucks all the time, but it's the colors that stick with me and not the words. Weird.
ReplyDeleteHannah, definitely! I don't often notice the trends in these drawings until I am able to look back at a sequence of them all at once. Often I get so focused on each individual piece that the connections to others in the series (or, in this case, the differences) aren't apparent until later. Which is part of the constantly unexpected surprises this entire project is always unveiling to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christy, I wanted some of that gore to come through. Especially with the loose guts and intestines of the whale hanging out through the slice in its belly.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wanted to point out that this sentence from the novel is just awesome. Look at that incredible alliteration! Melville is such an amazing writer.
