That is such a wonderful compliment Titus, thank you. I am torn sometimes because (due to my comics background) I quite love the beauty of simple black ink on paper. But I often find myself hungering for more color, and this illustration project has given me the freedom to really explore a wide variety of media and many brilliant colors.
This is a fantastic image--the color is great, but I really love how you reduced Pip to just his head, the center of his consciousness. Given the long strange journey his poor mind undergoes, it's the perfect representation.
Thank you Rudy, I was aactually agonizing over this piece for a day or two before I started on it. I had so many ideas but none of them seemed right. I talked about it with my wife and she made some suggestions ("Pip...and Pip.") that were actually extremely helpful to me in terms of visualizing this piece. Once I got that figured out, it came together rather quickly.
This, and Tashtego below, make me want to shout "That's what colour is for!".
