Ooh, I really like that. Unexpected. Potato-like.
ReplyDeleteSomething about this carpenter fascinates me. His time in the novel is so brief, yet he makes such an indelible impression by how he contrasts Ahab and the other sailors. He did very much remind me of a potato-like, rough-hewn clay man. Purely functional, but in a blunt and non-specific kind of way. I had great fun painting him and his preposterous hammer.
