I am really pleased with how this one turned out. The line of text is so open, and so many ideas went through my head. Like many of these illustrations, this one looks much much better in reality than it does on the screen. Moby Dick is much brushier and textured and almost translucent in places. The flames, though, look very accurate even on a computer screen.
And, as always with Ahab, a bit of a self-portrait here. The nearer I get to my goal of illustrating all 552 pages, the more obsessed, driven, and stressed I get. I never ever thought it would happen, but this project is indeed very close to devouring my life at this point.
Truly disturbing image. Well done.
