  1. I love the way the splashes of water become geographical shapes, like bars in a heavily stylized video game...

  2. So odd that you mentioned videogames! Another good friend, Kyle Wallace, mentioned that it reminded him of mode 7 scrolling (which you can look up on Wikipedia). But he, and you, were exactly right, this piece and the way I depicted the ocean were directly influenced by some of the backgrounds from those old 2-D sidescrolling Nintendo and Super Nintendo games I played when I was younger. Interesting how this kind of aesthetic firmly anchors these art pieces in a modern, pop-culture influenced milieu.
