MOBY-DICK, Page 196

Title: First: I have personally known three instances where a whale, after receiving a harpoon, has effected a complete escape; and, after an interval (in one instance of three years), has been again struck by the same hand, and slain; when the two irons, both marked by the same private cypher, have been taken from the body.

  1. "N.S."...those initials sure do look familiar.

  2. Very nice. It's interesting how much the found paper actually adds to the work. The diagrams and/or text seem to give it an otherwordly dimension.

  3. Thank you, and I agree. One of the (many) great joys for me in working on this project is seeing the ways in which the pre-existing imagery on the found paper interacts with the art I am creating. Occasionally those results are intentional, but more often than not they are accidental and subconscious. Ultimately though, they are always welcome and every image reveals something new to me as soon as it is completed.

  4. ps. do you purposely post at 11:11? or is it some automated hour (that's when we make a wish...)

  5. lizzyg, you are perhaps on to one of my secrets. I do schedule each post for 11:11 am. I wish I could do it manually but I am generally at work and unable to, and clicking that "post" button is not always as precise and time-sensitive as I would like.

As for the time of 11:11, I will leave that a mystery for the time being.
