  1. I'm not quite sure exactly why, but this is one of my new favorites in this series. I'm just really pleased with how it turned out, and how well all the elements of the image - the whale, the white flames, the eyes, the storm, the cloud - work together. I like the crudeness of it, the rough brushtrokes, and the flaws in the way the paint covers the page. In short, I just really like this piece and think it rather nicely epitomizes the novel itself.

  2. Just happened to stumble across this (I'm wanting to do a whale illustration and was looking for inspiration). It is fantastically well illustrated. Like the texture of the page coming through and the muted choice of tone. All in all, a very nice illustration. Congrats.
